Tawerga , a Gadaffi Loyalist town , that pitted itself against Mistrata few miles down the road, and lost. The rebels accuse the Tawergans of using rape as a weapon of war something considered unforgiveable in Libyan culture. Every house in Tawerga has been burnt, the residents effective ethnically cleansed and it now lies unoccupied an awkward reminder for the rebels that war crimes happened on both sides.After 42 years of Gadaffi’s brutal dictatorship, the Libyan people have successfully fought for and won their freedom. They held their first free election since 1965 on the 7th of July 2012.
